Blue
Advantage®
The Blue Advantage® program with Blue Cross and Blue
Shield of North Carolina®, is a program designed for those
needing individual insurance for themselves and their
families. The Blue Advantage® program is for those people who
are not insured by their employer or have been dropped by
their past insurer. The Blue Advantage® plan has two
different options, Option A and Option B. Option A has a 15$ copay for doctor visits and usually a 10$ cost for generic
prescription drugs. Option B was designed keeping in mind
those that are on a budget. Option B has lower monthly
premiums, but members will have to share more of the cost
for their health care and may not enjoy the lower
co-payments for doctor visits and prescription medication.
Blue Advantage® members have direct access to a large network
of doctors, specialists, and hospitals that are within the
network. Members of Blue Advantage® can also go directly to in-network
specialists and do not usually need a referral. Usually,
members do not have to deal with messy paperwork, and the
in-network doctors handle all the paperwork and filing.
In addition to the large networks and low co-payments, Blue
Advantage® provides it’s members with extras to help members
maintain optimal health. Programs are designed to help
people stay in shape, quit smoking, and learn more about
common illnesses like diabetes and asthma.
To qualify for Blue Advantage®, an applicant must be a
resident of the state of North Carolina, be under the age of
65, and not qualify for Medicare.
